As an example, when living in Northern Ca. in the mountains East of
Santa Cruz
the 'San Francisco' quake hit - it being less than 7 miles away - SF
being 70.

My property moved to the North West by 7 feet. - About 2 meters.

If one is doing papers or studies on the loci of a shell species it might
be important to know that a population over the past (say) 100 years nay
1000 years moved
and the two populations are really one being separated in time and force.
However they evolved differently due to local environmental sources.

There is a great example of this in California - two U.S. Federal
Monuments that were cleaved
by the San Andreas and sit 400 miles apart.
