Dear Roger, John, et al.,

In what was a precocious and a topically uncharacteristic work, Alan Solem
produced a fine monograph on the family of the species cited by John. Solem
was apparently an undergraduate at Haverford College when he began work on
this project. His career took a turn from the Bivalvia shortly afterward,
and he left us a fine legacy through his research on paleotropical
terrestrial gastropods, most of which was conducted while he was Curator of
Mollusks at the Field Museum.

This work has served me well as I curated specimens belonging in this
family, most of which were misidentified by previous owners (if you get my
drift):

Solem, A., 1954. Living species of the Pelecypod family Trapeziidae Proc.
Mal. Soc. London 31(2): 64-84 plus 3 pl., Dec. 31.

Harry

P.S. I couldn't link to George's website, so cannot confirm ID, which seems
plausible. Hidalgo placed his species in Cypricardia; ergo: Trapezium
sowerbyi (Hidalgo, 1903). HGL
