No one seems to be very interested in molluscs in the Columbia
Basin either. When they drop the levels in Snake River reservoirs,
hundreds of acres of clam beds are exposed. Now people are
seriously considering removing the dams. This is supposed to
bring salmon back from the brinks of disaster. Salmon are not the
only inhabitants of the Columbia Basin. But more important, I
believe no one is seriously considering anything but salmon.

I hope I am wrong.

I also wonder if the people in charge of these things really believe
that removing the dams will restore the Columbia and Snake Rivers
to their pre-dam condition.

I'm not sure.
