Dear All,
 
Perna viridis, the Pacific (giant) mussel is green when first bought, but
when you cook them the beautiful green colour disappears. I can't imagine
the colour being very persistent in sunlight either. I agree with Dawn that
it is rather likely to be a Haliotis. Any New Zealanders on the list these
days?
