Not to worry.  Since notice over the net is not yet recognized as a valid means of publication by
the scientific community, the "small demand" publications of real merit to serious collectors and
workers will continue to be published.  However, as you point out, these are usually printed in very
small numbers and rarely are later editions every released.  Therefore, for these cases the net
offers an invaluable opportunity to continue to make available material from books that are "sold
out" and never to be published again.    Most of the "coffee table" books are for the mass market
and would be unaffected by some of their pictures being traded over the net by small, specialized
groups such as serious collectors.  Don't believe my desk top would make an effective field guide.
