Elizabeth,
        I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Vermeij while visiting the U. S. National
Museum's malacology collection a couple of years ago.  I found him to be
gracious and full of wonder.  Amazingly, as I talked with him and watched him
worked I noticed the he "saw" details about the shells to which I was
oblivious.
