Dear Jennifer,

As you surely remeber I love Baja. I don't know
what shells you are looking for and however I visited
only the places with sand bottom to study the Olives.

Nevertheless I want suggest you two islands where
I think you might find interesting shells.

The first is Coronado Is. off Loreto. You may easily
rent a boat and , after 20 minutes you will arrive on
a white beach on the West coast. But if you will
cross the island by walking ( just few hundreds of
meters ) the East Coast have many rocks where,
I think, you will be able to find many kinds of shells.
The cost to rent the boat (last November) was $ 60.

The other is Espiritu Santo off LA Paz. Yes, you are
right, this place is very far in the South of Baja but
this island deserves a deep visit, believe me !
Don't rent a boat in La Paz, it's too much expensive
and it takes a lot of time to go to the island.
Whether you drive to Playa Tecolote you will find
a bar on the beach where you will be able to rent
a boat ( I payed 80 dollars for all day ). Only 15
minutes to cross the sea. On the island there are
both beaches and rocks; many nice coves with very
shallow water ( 1 meter or less ) and some interesting
small reefs: really a wonderful place !!

On next issue of "La Conchiglia, The shell", (n.290)
Italian magazine there will be a brief article on my
first shelling trip in Baja but it is dedicated only to
the Olives , OF COURSE !!!!

Have a nice trip, Jennifer ! Let us know about it
when you will come back, please.

Maurizio.

Hi,
We are planning a 2 week drive "down the Baja". We will leave
April 6th, with no particular itinerary in mind. Does anyone have any
shelling suggestions?........
