One of the more interesting things that I found on an Archeological dig in
St. Croix was the discovery of Conus spurius with a hole that is man made in
the side. The group gave me the specimen to figure out what it was for, but I
haven't had the time to pursue it. I have to return it to the dig site when
we send the other remains back. I sincerely doubt that it was used for
culinary purposes, but who knows. The dig was dated to be Pre-Taieno (sp)
around 500AD. The site was a burial, but the conus was found a great ways
away from the remains that were being exhumed. I would love to hear about any
uses for conus during that time.

Back to Snow statisics (grrrr)
