Dear Concheller's, I would like to support what Paul M has said re; rare
shells, by quoting a little incident that happened on the Sedro Oil Rig
50mls WNW of the Isle of Fulla (Shetland Islands). When a well head base
plate was being raised for repairs from the sea bed 600 metres below, my
son noticed a shell sticking to the mud, he rescued it, and after cleaning
it proved to be a beautiful pink specimen of Troscellia Berniciensis
(King,1876) in perfect condition. It is recorded as a very rare shell, and
they seldom appear on dealer's lists. When the deep sea divers were
replacing the plate, they told my son Peter that these shells were at least
2-3 feet deep on the sea bed - sadly it was too hazardous for them to
collect any shells at such depths You will realise why I treasure this
particular shell.
