Dear Ken, and all,
Your dream is a worthwhile one.
A group of landshellers just got back from Pinar del Rio Province and
the Vinales Valley in western Cuba a couple of weeks ago and reported
about 78 species and forms of land molluscs found. The Cubans were
reported to be very nice and the accomodations good, and you could drink
the water. Curiously, the Cuban natives cannot stay at the same hotels
as the tourists. Some problems with customs, such as the confiscation
of a hotpot (supposedly used too much electricity). La Habana was as
you would picture it with the loads of old American 1950's Studebakers
and Oldmobiles and Chevy's. Sounds like a great place to go.
