Bob Abela wrote,
Referring to Oldroyd's The Marine Shell of the West Coast of North America,
vol 2, part 2. This 1927 work (reissued in 1978) points to five in all, then
assigned to the genus Thais:

Thais lamellosa franciscana Dall, 1915
Thais lamellosa neptunea Dall, 1915
Thais lamellosa hormica Dall, 1915
Thais lamellosa cymica Dall, 1915
Thais lamellosa sitkana Dall, 1915

-- This is a common problem. In the bad old days, taxonomists often named
new species without bothering to write down that they were new. I guess they
thought it was obvious, but as you can see, it often wasn't. The ICZN now
requires that the author make that extra bit of effort to add "new species",
"n.sp.", "sp.n.", or equivalent phrases to the name for this very reason. In
new works, if an author omits to mention that his new taxon is new, then it
is not validly published.
