Cone people:
I've been working with an article based on Frank Perron's work on
rearing cones in the laboratory. Yesterday, it occurred to me that I
had no idea of actual the egg laying process, though I've seen lots of
cone eggs in the ocean.
What is the proceedure? (1)Is one side of the capsule secreted first
and eggs put on it and then the other side of the capsule closed. (2)
Or is the whole capsule secreted in sections with eggs added inside
untill the top of the capsule is closed and another capsule startec?
(3) Or are the eggs added after the capsule is almost complete and then
the top closed?
My guess would be (2) above.
Has anyone watched the process closeup? Taken photos?
Aloha,
Wes
