A few times times I have seen living Cerithium litteratum on large
short-spined sea urchins on rather barren sandy bottoms two to six ft deep
(observations made at Grand Turk, 1990, San Salvador, 1996, and some other
places). What exactly they were doing there I do not know, not feeding on
the sea urchin of course, maybe piggybacking with a little protection from
predators. The use of the genus name Eulithidium for most western Atlantic
tricoliids may be wrong.
