I know what happened but I do not know how to repair it (The acid in the
vinegar reacts with the calcium carbonate in the shell structure). I do;
however, belong to a great International group of Conchologists,
Malacologists, Museum curators and hobbyists and if there is help to found,
that is where you will find it.

I am Sending a copy of this email to them so you may be getting a few
responses in awhile.  I hope all works out well for you.  The Tridacna gigas
of that size is now very hard to get.

Our baptismal (giant) conch shell was recently cleaned by letting white
vinegar and water sit in it over night. Now it has a few small leaks! Is it
possible to plug leaks with something?
