Happy end of August to all,

Soon we'll start having those wonderful balmy evenings, then the
first hint of autumn. I can't wait! But meanwhile, I'm going through
all the shells I collected during the great calico scallop season we
had in 1998-99 and found the three dark brown olives that had come up
the conveyor belt. I was told this was Oliva pattersoni, but later
told it was just a form of O. fulgurator. To me the shape is
different, but I guess such determinations are made examining live
specimens.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to just what we are calling
this shell now? It's sure a beautiful color!

Thanks,
Jim
