To all listers:

Do any of the fossil land snail aficionados on the list have any
information concerning a Pupilla frivola Hejvandova [date unknown]?
Apparently it was described from the Pleistocene Bingade Basin asphalt
beds of Azerbaijan, which is much more famous for its fossil bird and
mammal species than mollusks. All I have been able to locate on line is
the following sentence from the Society of Avian Paleontology and
Evolution newsletter dated October, 1996 "in the molluscs, there is one
new fossil species, Pupilla frivola Hejvandova." The name cannot be
located the name in the Zoological Record either. These asphalt
deposits are purportedly "by its dimensions, it is possibly larger than
the famous site of Rancho La Brea, in California." Many thanks in
advance.

Aloha,

Lindsey
