CBS Network Radio News ran a news story this morning about a man in
Florida that is under investigation for smuggling Giant Africa Land
Snails into the U.S. for use in a religious ritual that is supposed
to be a curative. The ritual involves ingesting fluids from
Achatina fulica. That's right, you read this correctly. I was also
not quite sure that I heard the report correctly so I Googled the
story. Sure enough!! I guess the Florida residents on Conch-L have
already heard about this. I would not suggest reading the story if
you easily get queasy! I don't think we'll be seeing this become one
of those trendy drinks anytime soon... :-)
