my purpose in visiting this particular  spot was to look for the
introduced Cuban Pleurodonta marginella, which i did eventually
locate...My preferred way to look for Liguus (i dont collect land
shells)  is similar essentially to what Les said...if you  go to all
the same places in December, when the dry season has really kicked in.
 then the snails are dead on the ground in great abundance.
