I suspect Lambis, as a vernacular name for Strombus gigas, is an
Antillese word.
Explanations around this word are often stunning. One of the best I
found: "The lambis is a grey shell, with nacreous layer inside; this
crustacean is often found etc.".
So... etymology of such a name ? Good luck!
