Hi Doug,

I will check with Wil on whether there were any distinctive = marks on the
valves. I gather he has been checking on E-bay and Craig's List.

Thanks so much for your interest!

José

Hi José.

I suggest you also try some searches in the local Craig's List
(on-line) and keep an eye on Ebay (you can setup searches at ebay that will
send you alert messages if your search bears fruit). Any distinctive
marks? Is it both valves or just one valve? I just checked there are several
on ebay now.

Doug

Hi Conch-Lers,

Shell Museum maintenance engineer Wil Compton asked me to alert everyone in
the shelling world, and in
particular in Florida, to BOLO (Be On the Look
Out!) for a giant clam (Tridacna gigas) that was stolen from his front porch
between 1/14/2009 and 1/17/2009. The shell has been in the family for many
years, and consisted of the two valves, largest dimension about 40 inches,
total weight reaching 300 pounds.

Will believes that the perpetrator will try to sell the shell online or
elsewhere. Effectively, one of the local shell stores was contacted via
telephone about whether they would be interested in purchasing a “very large
clam shell.”

If you hear of any shell for sale that fits the profile, please let Wil know
at [log in to unmask]

Thanks so much,

José
