Here is the bidding history for a similar specimen recently offered on an
online auction site.

telamon (299) 600 $ 17-03-2011 > 07:50:10 1
pinkert (13) 680 $ 17-03-2011 > 22:00:27 4
telamon (299) 700 $ 18-03-2011 > 20:46:42 5
telamon (299) 720 $ 18-03-2011 > 20:46:51 6
telamon (299) 740 $ 18-03-2011 > 20:46:59 7
telamon (299) 760 $ 18-03-2011 > 20:47:06 8
Zaour (72) 760 $ 17-03-2011 > 12:23:48 3
telamon (299) 770 $ 18-03-2011 > 20:47:14 9
b-evg (4) 790 $ 20-03-2011 > 15:25:04 11
telamon (299) 810 $ 23-03-2011 > 05:32:04 12
telamon (299) 830 $ 23-03-2011 > 05:32:20 13
telamon (299) 850 $ 23-03-2011 > 05:32:29 14
Zaour (72) 910 $ 19-03-2011 > 19:02:30 10
b-evg (4) 930 $ 23-03-2011 > 16:59:05 16
pilsbry (95) 1075 $ 23-03-2011 > 15:39:04 15
murex1961 (601) 1500 $ 23-03-2011 > 20:41:21 17
Zaour (72) 1525 $ 23-03-2011 > 20:59:05 18

So if price is any indication, it certainly isn't common. There were two
offered during that auction, both with opercs, one with an intact
periostracum.
