Dear Justin & Ron,

So long as journals are edited by human beings there will not be a 
standardized format for bibliographic citations.  In fact you did not 
even mention the many journals that use some sort or the other of 
footnoted citations.  I doubt that electronic publication will change 
these.  I might add that I am not a fan of nomenclaturally available 
taxa descriptions that are purely electronic.  These exist for the 
benefit of publishers not for the future of science. Personally, I 
prefer the citation format used in the journal Zootaxa.  I got plenty of 
practice with it when I published Zootaxa 682, the turrid catalog with 
its 3,187 citations.
