Actually, Edgar Allen Poe did not write the shell book credited to him.  His
name is on the book but he really didn't write it.  His name was used
because of his notoriety as an author of the time.  I don't know if the real
author(s) is known.
The book is full of nomenclatural errors.  If it weren't for Poe's name
associated with it, the book would have been long forgotten.
