Luiz Simone named Haliotis aurantium in his excellent 1998 paper
"Morphology of the western Atlantic Haliotidae (Gastropoda, Vetigastropoda)
with description of a new species from Brazil. Malacologia 39(1-2):59-75".

Another very important contribution to abalone taxonomy, also by Dan Geiger
(University of Soutern California, Los Angeles), is: Geiger, D. L. & L. T.
Groves. 1999. Review of fossil abalone (Gastropoda: Vetigastropoda:
Haliotidae) with comparison to Recent species. Journal of Paleontology
73(5):872-885.

Merry Christmas and a productive 2000 to all!

Jose
