The last time I purchased pure ethanol for scientific purposes it was $1
for a pint bottle.  The same bottle would cost $7 in the liquor store.
The difference in price was the taxes imposed by the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.  These were the prices back in the 1970's.  I'm sure the
prices are higher now and I have no doubt that the tax differential is
still there.
