When I lost a hard drive about a year ago I was very lucky to have the
huge important files on my web server in HTML which I was able to
convert back to Word files.
 
Are you certain that your photos are not on a server somewhere?  Also,
with the new writable CD-ROM's, you can back up a huge amount of
information and photos.  Two of the other members volunteered to do it
for me and one is now converting all of the Opisthobranch Newsletter
issues since 1969 to CD-ROM files.
