Patty's comprehensive reply on macro photography is very helpful, however there
is one important method that Patty did not mention which is reasonable in price
and very efficient, see your camera shop for advice and an attachment and
reverse your lens to the camera body this will give a very high magnification
if your lens is suitable for this method.

For B & W photography try focusing your camera using household lighting onto
your subject so as to obtain the correct shadows to highlight any sculpture and
adjust your camera speed and aperture setting to suit. A little practice and
you will surprised and pleased with the results.

Do not attempt any close up or macro photography without a copy stand or
substantial tripod.
