while working on some Hawaiian fossils, I came across two lots of Cypraea
collected at the same place but at different times. I had labeled them as
Cypraea granulata but upon looking at them closely (there are 6 specimens)
at least two appear more like Cypraea nucleus. Now, nucleus is very rare in
Hawaii, so the idea of having fossil specimens is exciting. However, I need
to confirm my data.
I've visited Bob Dayle's site for information comparing the two species and
didn't find much. One article with color photos helped a little. "Cowries
of the World" by Burgess and "Hawaiian Marine Shells" by Kay didn't really
help much. What I need to see are side and end view photos of nucleus. If
anyone can supply me with these via e-mail, I would be most grateful.
