Your "Greek Mussels" were most likely the green mussel _Perna viridis_
(Linnaeus, 1758), a species largely harvested in the Indian Ocean and
cultivated throughout SE Asia. You will find the green mussel nowadays in
restaurants and markets thoughout the world. Your generic, global mussel,
if you will.
