Just an additional note on acetone (and do follow the precautions strictly) - Acetone will remove some, and I emphasize some glue-gun glue, which, although it may nothelp the varnished shells, will allow you to recycle shells in shell craft.   They can even be returned to a collection, with complete rinsing, drying, and oiling, if you do oil your collection shells.
