Dear Henk,
There is a colony of O. lactea at my mother's home in La Habra Heights,
California, at an elevation of about 450 feet. It has been there for years
and is quite healthy. I have seen that a local handbook on land snails
illustrates this introduced snail (as such). Specimens that I have
collected had the dark aperture. They are quite an attractive shell (OK,
not Polymita, but about as good as it gets in this area).

repetition here), but here is what I know about Otala in Florida:
I found a colony of O. punctata at a beachfront rental property in
Fernandina
Beach, Nassau Co. on July 13, 1993. The inner margins of the shells' lips

Phil Poland has been tapping a St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co. population of
O.

lactea. Outer lip margins pale ? faded.
USA. Texas. East side of Killean, Bell Co. Inez Anderson ! 8/15/78. O.
lactea.
Outer lip dark brown.
URUGUAY. On plants, sand dunes 100 m. from ocean, Rocha. Bruce Crystal!
11/96.
Outer lip cream-colored.
Dr. David Robinson was tracking these and other introductions while helping
with their interception at ports-of-entry as recently as two years ago.
