Betreff: proper measuring techniques

Hello everyone,

Question (from the question lady) :)

What is the proper way to measure (with calipers) a specimen such as a
Trochidae or Turbinidae; across the width of the base or from the spire to
base? If from spire to base, is there a particular orientation the
specimen must be in or is it just the longest point from spire to the tip
of the body whorl?

Thank you,
Nancy
