Dear All,

Still looking at limpets. I have asked a few dealers if they have any
specimens of Patella mexicana, the only true Patellid on the American
continent. All responses were negative. I then typed the name into
Google.com, and came up with some strange information. One site
http://www.rbt.ucr.ac.cr/revistas/48-3/esqueda.html suggests that it is
common in places in Cuastecomate Bay (I presume this is in Costa Rica?),
but another site http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/people/wbs/limptab.html seems
to suggest it is extinct, or at least in the Gulf of California.

Does anyone know more about this species and it's distribution, past or
present? Has anyone collected it alive? Does anyone have any shells?

regards

Patty
