Yaıll come to the Conchologists of America Convention,
                                    ³Circus of Shells²
To be held at the Hyatt Hotel, Sarasota, Florida,
                                   July 13-17, 2002
with optional field trips July 12 & 18

Youıll want to be in on the opening skit at 1:30 pm on Saturday July 13
and stay through the Dealerıs Bouse (sales from all over the world) and
wading field trip on Wednesday, July 17. There will be over a dozen talks
about shells, living and fossil, marine and fresh water, plus some
surprises.
Door prizes will be given out before each talk, with a very special door
prize before the annual meeting.
The welcome party will be at Mote Aquarium, featuring a mealıs worth of
finger food and a look at the Aquariumıs Mollusk Hall (which features a real
giant squid).
Members of Conch-L will have a time to meet and see each other in
person, talk about whatıs good and needed for Conch-L.
There will be four silent auctions, where you can pick up some real
bargains, plus an oral auction featuring some really wonderful shells and
shell-related items.
For the first time weıll have shellcraft sessions, where you can learn
to make flowers from shells and go away with a kit to make more on your own.
Field trips are many and varied: fossiling, wading, a boat trip on the
bay with marine biologists, scuba diving, fishing, dolphin watching, and
several local area attractions, and a bus trip to Sanibel and the Shell
Museum. You can participate in as many as five field trips without missing
any of the other action.
The banquet is in mid-convention this year, on Monday evening. Instead
of a formal speaker we will have surprise entertainment.
Over 40 dealers from around the world will be there on Tuesday and
Wednesday at the Dealerıs Bourse with wonderful shells for sale. Brouse,
bargain, and buy to your heartıs content.
Best of all, you will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with other
shell enthusiasts: rank amateurs, experienced field collectors, museum
curators, professional malacologists, and everything in between. Itıs a
great time for shell collectors!
All convention events except the oral auction and the Bourse require
registration. See the COA website for details and a registration form:

See you in Sarasota in July!
