A few days ago I posted a message about Nodipecten.  No reply yet but I'll bet
there are quite a few pecten collectors out there.  In 1982 I obtained a
specimen
of Nodipecten nodosus gabonensis Nicolay, 1981.  It was dredged in 60 ft. of
water on a sandy/mud bottom off Gabon coast, south of Liberville, West Africa.
Is Nodipecten nodosus gabonensis a synonym of Nodipecten corallinoides
(d'Orbigny, 1834)?  My specimen is knobless, compared to the photo in Carole
Marshall's article in the Sept. 1995 issue of American Conchologist, and looks
alot like knobless specimens on N. nodosus (linne, 1758) I have from the Gulf
of
Mexico.  It appears that A. Rombouts, Guidebook to Pecten Shells, recognizes
both species.  Did not see N. nodosus gabonensis listed in Carole's article
and can't find it in any other books we have.  What are ya'lls thoughts about
this??
