Hello, Fellow Shell Enthusiasts!

(I have been doing some back cataloguing, and I'm wondering if any conclusions can be drawn about an unusual Melogena corona I have. It came from someone who collected predominantly at Sanibel-Captiva during the 1970"s. This shell is blond, with some brownish banding and measure 80 mm.
In form, it most closely resembles the one on Phil Poland's site from the Halifax River, Port Orange, Volusia County, Florida.

I am a bit suspicious about the natural state of the shell - the surface is shiny, and IK know that earlier collectors/dealers once used acid to "shine" many a shell (as per instructions in one of Walter Freeman Webb's old book).

This is a great shell, but I really need someone to comment on the "authenticity" of what I'm seeing. The form, i.e., the excessive spinosity of the shell is real, but the color and surface luster may not be.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Cordially,
Linda Bush
