Since I no longer sell shells or operate a web site with an auction, I can add a
few thoughts without causing any eyebrows to be raised.

I have been both bidder and seller at many auctions including those at ebay. I
can honestly tell you that I have had both bad and good experiences with online
auctions, however, the bad have been very rare.

I would say that my success can be attributed to the philosophy that I have
regarding any purchase. Rather than "buyer beware", I subscribe to "buyer be
aware". With any purchase or bid, you need do your homework. Whenever
possible, be aware of who is offering the shell and their reputation, the true
condition shell, and the characteristics of the species. Lastly and most
important; don't be afraid to ask questions.

Now days, there are several good auction web sites, where reputable dealers are
offering their shells. BTW, a few of those sellers on ebay are actually the
same "reputable dealers that we all know and love".
