I have seen labels written in what appears to be india ink, on a variety
of paper qualities and contained in formalin and ethanol, which have
maintained their integrity very well over periods of up to several
decades - one batch i curated into a local collection dated to the 1930s
and was quite easily read.  That said, paper selection is at least as
important as ink (archival-type paper can be obtained from many
scientific supply companies): i've also seen labels which have virtually
disintegrated over a period of less than a decade!!
