Hi, Everyone!

I am preparing on a checklist of the molluscs
of Cheju Island, Korea. I am now working on
the genus Gomphina (Veneridae). I have had
problems in attempting to determine which
species of this genus occur here, as there
appears to some confusion in the names which
are used, even for the common species.

What is the status of Gomphina neastartoides
(Yokoyama 1922) and Gomphina semicancellata
(Philippi, 1843). Are they different species
or is one a synonym of the other? If they
are different, how can they be properly
identified?

If there is anyone on the list who can help
me, I would deeply appreciate it.

Malacologically yours,
Ron Noseworthy
