Although Conidae is one of the top 3 or so mollusc families in terms
of both conchological and malacological interest and arguably marine
ecological importance (in the tropics, i.e.), it is a curious matter
that seemingly few folks seem to relish the idea of participating in a
discussion group devoted to them!! An attempt to get a decent Conidae
e-list going last year, seems to have ground to a halt amid an
unfortunate outbreak of spam and indifference........
HOWEVER, the idea refuses to die, and i for one think it is a jolly
good one. Accordingly, i am inviting everyone on this general list who
is interested in the family Conidae, to join a new group dedicated to
this fascinatingly diverse (and beautiful to boot!!) family of
spear-fishing molluscs, which was founded recently by Gene Mallory:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Conidae/

If you are already a Yahoo subscriber, just enter your existing user
name and password and voila you are a member. If you do not yet have a
Yahoo membership, it is a quick, easy matter to obtain one by filling
out the form at
http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_register?.done=http . You get a very
large mailbox with lots of bells and whistles, access to some other
services, and for our puposes here, access to membership in zillions of
dicsussion groups, including Conidae.

Spam will be *strenuously* minimized on this group, and for those
concerned about too many extra messages, daily or even weekly digest
formats are available.

Hoping to see you there!,
Ross M.
