Linda,

I developed the habit of leaving the address box empty until my message is
completed. Then and then only I type or paste in the address and hit "send".
That way if I accidentally hit "send" prematurely, the message won't be sent
because there is no address to send it.  If I am responding to an email, I
cut the address out of the address box first, then work on my reply, and
paste the address back only when I am are ready to send it.
