As a former resident of Louisiana (Baton Rouge) and member of the
Louisiana Malacological Society my heart goes out to everyone back in
Louisiana and Mississippi haveing to endure such unbelieveable hardships.
For those of you outside the US trying to contact friends or family in
S.E. Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf coast it is highly unlikely that
you will be able to contact anyone for a while because of the total lack
of communication. If they did not leave prior to the storm and are ok New
Orleans residents are largely being evacuated to Houston; I'm not sure of
the status of other affected residences. Hopefully communications with
individuals living in those areas will improve as they get out of the most
heavily damaged areas which likely won't have communication for perhaps
many months yet to come.
