Timothy,
A question like this has really been touched on several times in the past .
Such questions arise very often. For example, one can ask whether it is
correct to mention Cypraea tigris schilderiana and Cypraea argus
contrastriata from Vietnam; why one mentions Luria pulchra sinaiensis from
the Gulf of Aqaba as a form and not as a subspecies; which criteria and
definitions people use (if they use any) when they decide how to treat
taxonomically mollusc populations ?

I tempted this forum into discussing all these practical questions and your
message is an additional evidence that such a discussion may be useful.

Sincerely
Eduard Heiman
