Dear Dick,

very interesting. Look forward to your paper on the Cuming shells.
Smells old books...and that's great and always interesting of course.

Dear Kurt,

good to know about your explorations here.

Of the 3 Romblon Islands, Tablas and Sibuyan are quite intact. I
don't know about Romblon itself which is the source of most of the
marble stones for the whole country. So, I expect damage there.
The southeast of Negros I've seen and except for the rather high
mountains, all is grassland and palm trees. I was flying over Masbate
last month and there 90 % of the Island is gone. But nearby Ticao is
fairly intact, the native vegetation going to the sea border in
several places. Another promising Island is Dinagat - the west coast
is virtually intact. The other coast i've not seen, but it is
probably also untouched. A good place to go are the forest
surrounding Sogod Bay, southern Leyte. By far the most interesting
are the Romblon Islands because they are more wet than the Ăisayan
Islands and as a consequence richer in land snails. The urgent
expedition should be for the remaining forest pockets of Masbate of
course. Part of the Island looks like Scotland - naked hills. Thanks
for confirming my observations here.
