I wonder if the fossil record could be examined for examples of two
related sympatric species hybridizing to such an extent that the
species with a smaller genepool becomes assimilated by the other?
It would be difficult, but basically working as the "opposite" of evolution.
The only example I know of is the assimilation of Homo
neanderthalensis by H. sapiens. However hybrid Lambis are pretty
common, so may be an example of this happening presently.
Thoughts?
