Folks,

This is to announce that the Philadelphia Shell Show will take place on Saturday and Sunday October 11 and 12, 2008 at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. All the usual attractions will be there, plus a number of new ones. Among the changes for 2008:
- Setup will be during the day on Friday, October 10. Exhibitors will be allowed to commence setup from first thing in the morning, via a dedicated entrance from the Academy's off-street loading dock (no more struggling through the 19th Street entrance!)
- The show will be in a single, dedicated room as it was in 2005 and 2006. Table setup and lighting will be completed by the end of Thursday, allowing exhibitors almost the whole of Friday for setup
- There will be a special preview of the show on Friday evening, jointly organized with the Academy of Natural Sciences. Further details of this will be published shortly. Please not that all exhibit setup will have to be completed by 6 pm on Friday.
- On Saturday, there will be a guest speaker in the evening, and some new events during the show itself. Special scientific demonstrations will augment the behind-the-scenes collections tours, and we are hoping to put on some presentations in the auditorium during the day too.
- The banquet is currently still in the planning stage, but will be in a new format that reflects the suggestions and comments of attendees in previous years.
- There will be some new judging categories, especially in the Arts divisions. These will be posted shortly on the club's web site, together with entry forms and the judges' manual.

The theme of the 2008 show is 'Bivalves!' Special awards are planned for the best bivalve-themed exhibits in both divisions, and some distinctly bivalvey events are planned too. I'm going to clam up about them for now, though.

More details to come!
