A while ago, someone posted a message on how to ensure packages arrive
safely. He or she strongly advised senders to never declare a value for
a package. I object to this advice, as being unnessessary (declaring a
value would very, very seldom interfere with a package's arrival,
especially if it is insured or registered, which i consider reasonable
precautions, as both allow a package to be traced), and i do not think
we should be advocating breaking laws on this list: it may be a
widespead practice to cheat customs (and i am not innocent, although i
keenly feel like a ***huge*** hipocrite for following "generally
accepted" business practices instead of my own concience (ie, using the
end of helping disabled children to justify the means of theft and lying
- a bit like selling my soul to do some amount of good) !!!), but this
casual thievery and baldfaced lying should most certainly not be
encouraged on such a list as this, which contains beginning collectors
and children, no matter how common it is in our community.
Disgruntled (but not a postal worker!) in Canada,
Ross M.
