I'm answering simultaneously via CONCH-L since the subject is shells and
others may have questions or comments.

Yes. Jacksonville, if I remember correctly? That was back in my "intense"
beginning days. I gave up active collecting from about 1984 to 1991. Then
got back into field collecting to help out Paula Mikkelsen complete her
inventory of Indian River Lagoon mollusks (Molluscan Biodiversity in the
Indian River Lagoon, Florida. Bulletin of Marine Science, 57(1): 94-127,
1995) . As a result I developed an interest in doing continuing
inventories of estuarian areas in the lagoon to validate Paula's efforts
back to the early 80's and to kind of monitor changes. Part of the effort
involved validating earlier studies of the lagoon on the Kennedy Space
Center and determining if the Shuttle launches have had a negative effect
on molluskan biodiversity. The final report confirmed most of the species
existant prior to the start of launches and identified many not previously
identified. Almost all my work is with miniatures in the intracoastal
waterway. I'm hoping to develop a time based database of mollusks in the
lagoon from Ponce Inlet to Sebastian (or maybe to Ft. Pierce). Harry Lee
is essentially doing the Florida coast north of Ponce and maybe our efforts
will encourage someone from Treasure Coast to pickup at Ft. Pierce and work
south. Harry has put a list on the Jacksonville page and I hope to post my
efforts on the ATSC's page. It'll be some time before I get it posted
since I'm still learning how to use these computers and I want to involve
everyone in the ATSC.

Best regards (to all)

Marlo
