Yes, the crucifix shell comes from the head of a catfish.
I have found them several times wandering the beaches in
Florida. They can also be found abundantly near fishing piers
(the result of the fishermen throwing useless catfish parts into the
water.) The kind of catfish most of the bones come from is the sail
catfish.
