Dear CochLerifera:
I attended the awards ceremony last night for the Central Florida Shell
Club. Some exquisite exhibits were honored, and we received the inaugural
presentation by Alice Monroe, of her talk on "Why aren't there more species
in the Caribbean Province?". If you get a chance to hear this talk - take
it. She has done her usual exemplary job.
While touring the exhibits I saw many dreamy shells! One exhibitor had so
many Pleurotomaridae on exhibit that he even sliced one up to show the
interior architecture! Imagine having a Pleurotomarid to slit!
I didn't see my dream shell though - A Liguus fasciatus form pictus variety
crassus.
Enjoy this flight of fancy - a great topic for the list!
PS: my kids both won First Place at the show in the scientific category and
my son won a Special Merit Rosette for his 2 box display entitled - "The
Liguus". I even won second place in the Artistic Category!!! If you are in
or near Orlando - come on down for the show [Today 5/20 & tomorrow 5/21].
Thanks
Bob & Rosemary
